Hatibu Shehe, BEd

I am from Jibondo Island and hold a degree in Education, and I previously worked as a secondary school teacher on Jibondo teaching Geography and Swahili.

Through my work in marine conservation, I have had the opportunity to travel to Marseille for the SMILO meeting in 2024, and to Raja Ampat, Indonesia for coral reef restoration training in 2025, which has helped me to share knowledge and skills with international partners and learn new skills that I can pass along to my colleagues in Mafia.

I now serve as the Project Manager for The Rope of Hope’s coral reef restoration, while also coordinating the clean cooking gas project on Jibondo and leading whaleshark excursions with Kitu Kiblu alongside conservation and community engagement activities.

My work focuses on protecting coral reefs, marine life, promoting sustainable livelihoods, and inspiring young people through the Coral Conservation Club.
